Our generation”.  Like every year, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) will celebrate International Day of the Girl Child 2021 reaffirming its pledge to promote the progress of girls and safeguard their rights. Significance Achieving gender equality and women's empowerment is an integral part of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals that UN member nations adopted in 2015. The International Day of the Girl Child holds the key to achieving this as empowering women and girls, who represent half of the world's population, is crucial to accelerating sustainable development. Nations need to pledge to assist young girls to grow into empowered women, who have access to proper healthcare, skill-based learning facilities and equal opportunities in a world free from gender-based ...

Just In: ‘Bandits’ Contact NDA, Demand N200m Ransom for Abducted Major

The terrorists who abducted Major Stephen Dantong from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Afaka, Kaduna, on Tuesday have contacted the authorities to demand a N200 million ransom, FIJ can report. Around 1am on Tuesday, a contingent of bandits pulled up on motorbikes, invading the Army barracks to kill two soldiers, identified as Lieutenant Commodore Wulah and Flight Lieutenant Okoronwo. They also abducted Major Datong. FIJ gathered that the gunmen operated for hours and left without any hindrance. After they left, soldiers in the barracks made efforts to trail them but failed. “They couldn’t kill even one of them,” an NDA source lamented to FIJ. “They searched everywhere in the bush but couldn’t find them. They had fled away with their motorbikes.” FIJ understands the bandits subsequently contacted the defence academy to initiate negotiation on the payment of ransom before they release Datong. Reasons Thomas Tuchel wants to sell Kurt Zouma this summer

Image
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has prioritised signing a centre-back this summer, with Jules Kounde Chelsea’s top target, and has decided Kurt Zouma should be moved on. Tuchel identified centre-back as a problem position for the club after arriving at Stamford Bridge and the club drew up a shortlist of players to sign. That included Ibrahima Konate – who has joined Liverpool, Niklas Sule and Jose Gimenez but Kounde is the man they are pushing to sign. The France international, 22, is viewed as a player with great potential and would join Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta, Reece James and Zouma as Chelsea stars who can play in a back-three. As per  The Athletic , Zouma’s future is far from certain. While he has proven himself in the air at both ends of the pitch, there are concerns over his ability to play out from the back. Tuchel has increasingly left Zouma out of the starting XI since his arrival and the club are now ushering him out...

Hushpuppi Vs Nigeria Government: Who will win

Image
By Dr. Ugoji Egbujo Abba Kyari is an enigma. A detective who craves the limelight. A replica of James Bond with the guns and guts, but without the women and drinks, perhaps. Someone said Abba would have solved Funso Williams and Bola Ige. When a hard nut falls on our head, we look to Abba Kyari and his team to crack it. I must confess, after solving the billionaire kidnapper Evans and helping to diagnose the Unknown Gunmen in the southeast, I will remain eternally grateful to Abba Kyari. My soul weeps. These are not great times for the super cop. A certain Ramon Abbas, alias HushPuppi, who lived more flamboyantly than any Saudi Sheikh while fleecing businesses and persons of hundreds of millions dollars in wire fraud, has been spilling the beans. Now singing like a canary and rolling on the floor for the FBI, hoping for leniency in a plea bargain, Hushpuppi has roped in the great Abba Kyari. Well, the noose on Abba Kyari’s professional neck could be the ...
